We only had one full day in Panama City but we managed to fill it with a lot. First we took a trip to the fish market (Mercado del Marisco). There are a few stalls running along the side of the market where you can order fresh fish from the market.

We then took a lovely stroll around the old city and it was great to see the juxtaposition of old gutted buildings alongside new fancy buildings.
Panama Canal
The following day we took a trip to the Panama canal to watch the ships come in. We took a bus to the bus terminal and from there we took a taxi to Miraflores Locks for $6. We got there at about 2.00 p.m., but it took a long time for the ships to come in. We saw the boats from the distance but it took them about 1 1/2 hours to get into the lock.

We stayed in Lemon Inn (lemoninnpanama.com) which was a great hostel. The rooms were about $40 a night. Our friends room had it’s own air conditioner but mine was a central air conditioner which was a bit too cold, but the place was really nice. The staff were really helpful and could give us a lot of information and advice, and the breakfast was substantial.
